Tyler's Campaign 2010

Tyler decided he wanted to run for Vice President of the Student Body at Sandcreek Middle School. His best friend, Nathan was running for President so they didn't want to compete. Tyler put up a good campaign but sadly, he didn't win:( He would have done such a great job. He took the whole campaign very seriously. He really wanted to do something great for his school. He has been teaching himself online, how to do 3D animations. He found this free download of Blender and has spent hours learning and making all kinds of neat animations. He thought this would be a great after-school club that a lot of kids his age would be interested in. So he approached the Principal before he decided to run, and asked him if he would be able to start up this club if he won. He told the principal about the free Blender program that you could download, and that he could teach the group of kids how to use it. Plus it has it's own tutorials they could use. I was so impressed that he had a real plan and wanted to take action. I couldn't believe that he took the initiative to talk to the Principal about it. I kind of knew in the back of my mind, that he wouldn't win but I was happy that he wasn't afraid to try. Tyler isn't the most sociable kid. He's friendly, but keeps to himself most of the time. I knew from prior experience, that school elections are more a popularity contest than who would do the best job. Although I know that didn't even occur to Tyler. He's kind of clueless in that area. He really hasn't ever been the type to play with friends. Even when he was little, he never went to friends houses or invited them over. He is content doing his own thing, and has always prefered spending his free time working on his own projects. Nathan is the closest friend he has ever had. He is a lot like Tyler and are both really smart boys who have a very dry sense of humor. Half the time I don't even get what they are talking about. They have some pretty intelligent conversations. But I am so happy he has a friend he gets along with so well. While Nathan is very studious like Tyler, he is also athletic (unlike Tyler) and a lot more sociable. So Nathan made it through the preliminary election and will find out if he wins in a couple of days. This is Tyler's flier he passed out. He came up with all of it himself and just asked me to take it to the printers since he needed so many color copies. I thought it turned out so good. His very favorite movie is "Meet the Robinsons" . He has been told MANY times that he looks like Lewis from the movie. He acts a lot like him too. So he used this for his campaign.
Luckily Tyler is such a good kid, he didn't let his loss get to him. He is very excited for Nathan and hopes he makes it. Plus he says he wants to try and run again next year! Man, I'm just so proud of that kid!

It's heartbreaking for the mom! I'm glad he tried it. He really is such an amazing boy. I remember hearing him give a talk in primary when we first moved in 5 years ago and Brad and I both said "WOW! That boy is ON IT!" Good kid. I'm glad you are his mom.
