Tyler turns 13!

I have a teenager now! Can you believe that? I don't think I'm old enough to be a mother of a teen! What happened to my toddlers? My kids are growing up way too fast! So Tyler has been wanting a new laptop for a while now. He has been saving every penny he earns for one. He very rarely spends his money. He has always been one to save for some big purchase he really wants. Because of this, he has been able to buy himself some pretty cool, but expensive things. When he was 10 he went to a robotics camp in Seattle where they used VEX robotic kits. So when he got home, he saved every penny for a year to buy himself one. Then on his last birthday he bought himself a video watch out of the Think Geek catalog. This year was his biggest purchase he's made. He wanted this new computer so we told him if he saved enough for half of it, that we would pay the other half for his birthday. Ron had to work in Denver on his birthday so we celebrated Tyler's birthday as a family a few days early. He and his Dad went and pick out his new laptop. He was one happy kid, as you can see. We knew it would be worth it for him. He is such a smart kid who is learning so much. Sometimes I wonder where he came from! Just about everyday since he got his new computer, he has been getting online and listening to lectures on computer programming at MIT. He has been talking about going there for a couple of years now. I can't even believe he understands that stuff. As soon as he's done listening to the hour long lecture, he gets to work trying out what he has learned. He has already learned how to do so much and is writing his own programs. He shows them to me and tells me they are really simple but I can't even tell you what they are since it sounds like a foreign language to me when he talks. I just pretend I know what he is talking about, but SERIOUSLY... how could you listen to lecture after lecture. That stuff is so boring to me. But one day this kid is going to make us all rich and I will remind him that we paid for that robotics camp, and half of that laptop that got him started! Watch out, here comes the next Bill Gates!
On his real birthday, we woke him up before his alarm went off and brought him Breakfast in Bed. This has always been Ron's tradition for the kids birthdays, and they love it. So since he wasn't here, we had to carry it on for him. This is not an easy task for me being that I am not a morning person or breakfast person for that matter. The kids all look pretty sleepy in this picture. Oh yeah, did I mention we got a dog? I still can't believe I agreed to that. I am so not an animal lover.
Normally, I check the kids out of school on their birthdays and take them out to lunch. But since this is the first year I have been working during lunch time, I checked him out after I got off of work. It worked out nicely since it was his last class of the day, math, which he really doesn't like because of his teacher. So he was surprised and happy. We just went to Sonic and got slushies. Then later that night he had a couple of friends come over and have a late night party. I made glow-in-the-dark flubber for them to play with and they took it, and his lap top out to the clubhouse and watched Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D. When it was dark, they painted their faces and even the dog with glow-in-the-dark paint and ran around the back yard having a good time.
Tyler's friend made him this hat, belt and wallet (with money in it) out of Duck Tape. He thought it was the coolest thing ever! I still can't believe this kid is 13!!!
As if that's not enough to make me feel old, on the same day my baby graduated from kindergarten! Isn't she so cute in this picture? I just love it! She looks so grown-up. Geez, where have I been and when did this all happen? They were just babies a year ago weren't they? Has it really been that long?!
This is Courtney with her best friend Brinley. I love how they hold hands. My boys never did that with their friends. Being a girl is so much fun!
Now on to First Grade. All my kids will be in school the full day next year! I seriously can't believe how fast the time went. I'm really having issues with this! :(
