Thanksgiving 2010

In our family, Ron and I take turns having Thanksgiving with each others families. This year it was with my side of the family. Then, within my family, we rotate who hosts. So it works out that I host Thanksgiving at my house like every sixth year or something like that. So anyway, this year was my year. I made these cute little turkey place settings the last time I hosted and saved them. They were all still in good shape just a few parts missing. Nothing a hot glue gun couldn't fix. I made napkin holders new this year. They were super fast and easy. Just ribbon and a glued on silk leaf.
For the kids tables this year I found this cute oreo turkey online. I decided to use them instead of the turkeys I had in the past for the kids. They were a hit!
All of our guest traveled from Utah through quite the snow storm to get here. I was seriously getting worried if they would make it. In the 7yrs we have lived in Idaho, I have never seen so much snow on Thanksgiving. It looked like a winter wonderland, not Fall. Plus two days before Thanksgiving half the town shut down and we had blizzard warnings. I thought they may even close I15. But luckily it cleared enough and everyone made it safely. Although I heard it was quite the long, slow drive here with all the ice, wind and freezing temperatures. I think the high that day was something like 8 degrees and the low was -12. All I know for sure was that it was freezing! But inside my house it was warm and cozy with my family and the smell of yummy turkey with all the trimmings.
Here is the little kids table. This is my brother Anthony's little boy, Aaron and my sister, Annette's little boy, Adam. They are both 3 years old and adorable. Look how patient they are waiting for their food!
Here's the bigger kids table. On the left side we have Courtney, then Alex, then Austin is hiding next to him, then Eric. On the end is Jordan. On the right is Ryan & Jason (Annette's boys) and then Tyler. I can't believe how big all of our kids are getting! My how time flies.
Then we have the biggest kid table. Ron is not looking as patient as those 3 year olds. He really just wants me to stop with the pictures so he can eat already! But he survived waiting a few more minutes so we could all enjoy these Thanksgiving pictures on my blog.
After our tummies were full and we could eat no more, the girls made this cute countdown to Christmas craft project. My sweet hubby cut the wood for us and we modge podged scrapbook paper on and then stenciled the letters and numbers on since I don't have a vinyl cutter. :(
I have never had a Christmas count down before. I love it because now I don't have to answer that question 542 times a day!
The kids made their own Oreo turkey craft while we were doing ours. The guys were watching football.
Then the crazy kids went outside to play in the snow in subzero temperatures!
Darn! My backyard still looks trashy in the snow. I was hoping the snow would cover it up. I definitely didn't take this picture. My sister did. If I took it, I would make sure to zoom in on the kids so you could not see our trampoline is still up, our grill is still out, and our broken gazebo is still...well, broken and not disposed of.
Jordan took this picture of the snow fort he and his cousins made.
Eric and Ryan admiring their handy work. Well, the fun stops there. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt! There was so much snow outside and Courtney was walking a little too close to the house and thought she was stepping on solid ground, when suddenly it gave way and she fell four feet into the window well. The boys claim they warned her not to step there, but she didn't believe them. (kinda like in the movie, The Christmas Story when the kid licks the flagpole and his tongue sticks!) She just had to find out for herself. There were a lot of "We told you so" to be heard around the house the rest of the day.
We ended the day with a trip to the Emergency Room.
Courtney waiting patiently for her X-rays.
Yep, we've got a break. They called it a green break, like a green branch that breaks. It isn't dislocated because it didn't actually break in half. It's more like a crack. They put a removable cast on it just so it's protected if she bumps it again and it actually breaks. This is nice so she can take it off to bathe or if it bothers her. She was very sad to find out she won't be sledding before Christmas. She had to sit in the car with Dad while he pulled her brothers and cousins around on sleds the next day. :( My brother, Anthony and his family had to go home that night because he had to work the next day. But my mom and sister and her family stayed with us until Sunday. We hit some black Friday sales and then on Saturday we watched the BYU vs U of U game. It was quite the event with Ron being a University of Utah graduate and fan, and my sister's family from Utah county and huge BYU fans.
Annette made these cookies which Ron and Jordan used to play a joke on Jason. They sprinkled salt all over one of them and just sat back watching the game, waiting for Jason to say something when he took a bite. But he never did! He ate the entire thing like nothing was wrong! Ron said, "That just goes to show BYU fans have bad taste!"
I made University of Utah floats (red cream soda & vanilla ice cream)
It was a fun game to watch. At least until the 4th quarter! Oh, the controversy! It's just a game! It was all in good fun though. Both teams played well. It was a fun long week. I hope all of you had a fun Thanksgiving too!
