Courtney was so excited for her birthday to come for weeks. She would ask me every day how much longer it was until her birthday. Quite frankly, I found myself wishing the day would arrive so she would quit asking me so much!
As family tradition would have it, Courtney started her day with the family in her bedroom singing her "Happy Birthday" and bringing her breakfast in bed. The picture I took of her eating in bed didn't turn out, unfortunately. After breakfast, Courtney went to school with pink sugar cookies to share with her class. School was dismissed just before lunch that day for teacher prep for Parent/Teacher Conference. It worked out perfectly for Courtney's birthday schedule because when the kids got home, they were ready for lunch, and we had a pink princess picnic waiting for her on the kitchen floor when she got home. Of course, she had to hurry and change into her Sleeping Beauty dress before she could have her princess picnic. After lunch she had 8 friends over for a Princess Party. Her brothers acted as knights, guarding the palace and announcing the arrival of each princess to the party.
The girls came in and received their tiaras and sparkles on their cheeks.
Then the festivities began. First they made their own necklaces by stringing candy onto elastic.
Next it was onto the games. They had to go apple picking in hopes to find the poison apple before Snow White found it and ate it.
Then they played "The Princesses Favorite things". There were all sorts of the princess's favorite things on a plate, and they had to memorize them and then try to guess what item was missing.
They also played "Belle's Teapot". They passed it around the circle like a hot potato until the music stopped. Whoever it landed on got to open the teapot and take out a treat and then sit in the middle of the circle. The last one left with the teapot was the Birthday Princess. What luck! She got to keep Belle's teapot! ;)
After all those activities the princesses worked up an appetite. What was on the menu you ask? Princess cake, pink ice cream and pink lemonade, of course.
Time for presents!!!
Courtney's Princess Party was a big success. All the party goers had a great time. Courtney sent her friend's home with a party bag that included pink play dough with sparkles mixed in, that she helped me make.
Happy 6th Birthday Courtney Shay! I sure love my girly girl!!!
