The Great Disappointment
Two years ago, all three of our boys were in just about every sport out there and life was great. Ron was very happy with our sons choice to play. Tyler was even the quarterback on his football team and Ron couldn't have been more proud. Then last football season, Tyler came to me and said, "Mom, I don't really like football. I was thinking that I would like to join the Chess Club at school instead." I was a little taken back by that but thought that would be fine, so I told Tyler to talk to his Dad. When Ron heard this request his face went pale and I thought he might pass out. (I'm dead serious. NOT exaggerating!) He said, "But Tyler, you are such a good football player. One of the best on your team! How can you not love it?"
Well needless to say, Tyler quit football and moved on to Chess Club. He absolutely loved it and was really good at it too. Not many kids could beat him at the game.
So this football season rolls around and Jordan and Austin are the first ones in line to sign up. Tyler decides to "opt out" yet another year. Yesterday he came home from school and tells me that he would like to join the band. He seemed very enthusiastic about the whole idea. So I was fine with that I was just a little worried about how his Dad would handle the news this time. So I told Tyler to go ask his dad if it would be okay. I heard him in the other room talking about it but I couldn't hear Ron say anything. He was just quiet the whole time and Tyler kept going on and on about how cool all the instruments are. Finally I heard Ron speak but he just started talking about some random thing like he didn't even hear what Tyler was talking to him about. So Tyler came back to me a little confused as to Dads response. I told him it would be fine for him to join the band and that his dad just needed a little more time to process this new information and that he would be fine with it after he got used to the idea.
I sure love my son Tyler!

That is sooo funny :) Hunter was in band and chess club the past couple of years. This year he is in band and robotics club, played football (it was okay, he doesn't love it like baseball) and we'll what happens next year. Carson was in chess club too. He LOVES to play. But he is a soccer man. I think Jeff's only chance at a football player is Tyler, luckily he is big and a great blocker.
I just hope he wants to play flute or clarinet - I would LOVE to see Ron's face! You are an awesome mom to support what your children want - they will be so much happier and so will you. I believe that if you do what you feel is right for you (even kids) you will have the experiences you need to prepare you for the life Heavenly Father has planned for you. Some need football - some need french horns!
This is Jason I just took band I play the clarinet its really fun.
Cute blog! Can't wait to see more stuff. Thanks again for hangin out the other night, it was tons of fun!!
